Thanksgivukkah -Thanksgiving – Hanukkah – Black Thursday – 3 for 1!
Thanksgivukkah is a once in a lifetime opportunity where two traditions come together as one. The challenges and benefits of such an occasion makes for some great comedy. Thanksgiving and the first day of Hanukkah both fall on Thursday, November 28th, 2013. So Happy Thanksgivukkah a new holiday name. Based on the calendars this is a once in a lifetime coincidence. One physicist has calculated that, if the Jewish calendar is not revised, Thursday, November 28 will not fall during Chanukah again until the year 79811.
To make things even more interesting the retailers decided they want us to end our meals early and rush to the stores for the limited bargains of things we don’t need. They moved our traditional Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving where all the sales start for Christmas to Black Thursday. In my normal tradition of asking the question, “What’s good about this?” I came up with several wonderful benefits of such a holiday trifecta of having 3:1.
Benefit of the Trifecta
1. We have so much more to be grateful for. Thanksgiving is all about being thankful for what we have and coming together to share it with friends, family and loved ones. It makes it even more special and an opportunity to leverage our time together.
2. Saves you time and money. You get to save on gas, the expense of two meals and you only need to venture out to friends and family once instead of twice this year.
3. Less dishes to cook and clean. You get to combine two cooking holidays in one. That means you only have to prepare once for two occasions. For some this means cooking every traditional dish on one day. For others it means just making different choices of what will be on the menu.
4. You’ll lose weight. Yeah! You will not be repeating the feast and tradition of overeating, but once this year.
5. Company will leave early. No need to concern yourself with the guests that never leave the deals are too good and they must take advantage of them.
A unique situation for sure. Once in a lifetime.
Funny as it may seem as I watch the frenzy of those around me I feel like a spectator at a sporting event. I choose not to participate in any of the insanity or commercialism that has been put in front of us. You get to choose too. My husband, Yardley and I celebrate the holidays every day. Everyday is Christmas, Chanukah and Thanksgiving. We decided over ten years ago not to wait for a holiday or special occasion to express our love for one another. We give gifts all year if we choose to and holidays are no longer once a year.
