Use Food for Nourishment Not Love
People who are suffering from heart aches brought on by feeling unloved or not good enough or unhappy, tend to use food and eat an enormous amount as this becomes their only way to find comfort and support. At those moments they are using food to fill the void of love they feel in their heart. This kind of condition is called emotional eating. While emotional eating can help ease the emotional pain that the person feels, this can also lead to more problems like weight gain and habitual or compulsive overeating.
Emotional eating is usually an ongoing and prolonged process. You can’t be satisfied with the food that you eat and tend to continue eating. The urge to eat continuously is driven by the emotional feeling of heart ache and sadness or emptiness and the need to fill the hole in your heart. The comfort and satisfaction from emotional eating can provide with you benefits, but it has unforeseen negative effects in your life. It is necessary to hold hunger every time you feel emotionally depressed, but there are things that you can do to avoid compulsive overeating. You can still find emotional escape from other things and not just from food.
You tend to eat because of love. The feeling of being alone triggers your desire to eat. If this emotional feeling triggers your urge to eat, distract yourself in a positive and healthy way rather than with food. You can create a list of things that you can do to suppress emotional eating. Watch a movie, call a friend, perform heavy workouts, listen to music, or go outside. Changing your environment will allow you to suppress the urge of eating from your emotions.
You can also avoid emotional eating and gaining a tremendous amount of weight just by allowing yourself to feel the emotions. This can sound a bit complicated as you are trying to forget the emotional distress. Emotions are only temporary, and it can be used as the triggering factor to gauge what is inside you that needs attention. If you allow yourself just to feel the pain, it will pass. I always does, you just need to be patient and sit with it or do something to distract yourself until it does.
The sense of sadness, depressions, and self pity will only pass when you allow them to subside from the bottom of your heart. These emotional feelings will eventually come and go, and you will instant relief when this happened.
Food must only be used for nourishment and not for love or any kind of bad emotions. You must only eat when you’re hungry, or your body does require energy. Stay proactive and develop effective strategies to conquer emotional eating. Make a list of activities to do to overcome your urge to eating when your emotions strike you. Your compulsion for food will only become stronger when you become emotionally vulnerable.
If such feeling strikes you, make use of running or try proactive sports that will allow you to sweat and relax your mind. You see, the feeling of being heartbroken is only temporary. Make your own self busy and do not stay inside the house as this will make you eat more and more often. If you are busy, you will not remember that emotion, and you will forget it eventually.
