Creating success-oriented systems is the true path to achieving success. You may recognize the power of goal-setting, but this is only the beginning. A goal is the desired destination, but it does not specify how to get there.
A successful business always has a system for generating sales, for instance. There are sales objectives, but the system is what moves the organization toward these objectives.
When pursuing a new objective, it is essential to establish new systems.
Follow this procedure to develop effective systems that will contribute to your success:
- Know your goal but focus on how to get there. Imagine that your objective is to complete a marathon in nine months. How fascinating! But let’s concentrate on how you might arrive there. Imagine that you haven’t run in years and that you need to lose 20 pounds to increase your chances of success.
- Formulate a support goal. You are aware that you must ultimately run 20 miles every other week, increase your weekly mileage to 40 miles, and lose 20 pounds. You must also acquire more knowledge about running. These are support objectives.
- Your “systems” will be the means by which you choose to achieve these support objectives.
- Work backwards. Obviously, if you haven’t run in years, you can’t just go out and run 20 miles. You will also not lose 20 pounds in one day. Attempting to run 40 miles in the first week will result in injury and demotivation.
- Now, your weekly objective is to adhere to your plan. Evaluate how well you are adhering to your plan. The final objective is merely the destination. The key is to concentrate on your systems to get there.
Each objective will require distinct systems. For instance, if you’re a real estate agent who wants to sell $10 million worth of real estate this year, it may consist of the following:
- Each week, call 25 expired listings.
- Send 100 postcards monthly in search of new buyers and sellers.
- Attend three monthly networking events.
- Ask everyone you know if they are looking to buy or sell a home.
Effective systems are realizable and ensure success. Develop systems that make failure impossible. Ineffective systems or poor compliance lead to subpar outcomes.
Establish your objectives, then concentrate on developing effective systems. If you develop effective systems and adhere to them, you will achieve success.
